Nature's Cradle
A PACKAGING PROJECT FOR HEALTH NUTS

"Don't worry, Nature provides"
This is a simulated work created for a module called "Packaging" that I studied in the second year in Temasek Polytechnic. The assignment required us to create a suitable packaging for the client's new line of nut products.
THE RATIONALE:
The rationale behind the design of the packaging is that the products, or Harvest Field's nuts, are specially cultivated and especially healthy. This is pushed forward by the name and logo of the product. "Nature's Cradle" implies that the product is taken care of by nature, thus, it is as natural as possible. Whereas the logo is of a nut (the product), hiding in the embrace of the tree (or nature). These visual cues really help to push forward the claim that the product is 100% organic and extremely healthy.
THE PROCESS:
To come up with the final design, I had to explore into many different concepts and ideas. This really left me with a severe mental block and since the brief given was vague, this meant that I had to come up with the specifics myself. Thus, I began my journey by researching on the client. This allowed me to understand thoroughly what the brand stands for and fully immerse myself in the making of the packaging design. I was able to think from the brand's point of view and ponder about how they would want to approach and appeal to the target audience. For the naming of the product, I wanted the target audience to feel like they are being cared for by the brand and its products, where it is safe for them to put their complete trust in the brand. Thus, I named the product "Nature's Cradle", which gives of a very endearing feeling and makes the target audience feel loved. This led me to create the logo and subsequently, the design. The design for the 2 flavours of nuts are roughly the same. This was to create consistency and allow the purchasers to associate the 2 flavours together easily.
THE REFLECTION:
This module really tested by skills in Adobe Photoshop. Because my target audience was adults, it would not be appropriate for me to create a cartoonish design. Thus, I had to make the superimposed image as realistic as possible. It took a while, but I managed to make the design as realistic as I could get it. I am happy I had the chance to go back to the basics and use Adobe Photoshop again, but this time exploring more of the tools and gaining better skills and techniques along the way.
