His Story,
My Story:
A Publication
A 3-PART PUBLICATION

"It is my story too"
This is a fictional work created for a module called "Publication" that I studied in my first year in Temasek Polytechnic. The assignment required us to create publications for the National Museum of Singapore and the National Gallery Singapore.
THE PUBLICATIONS:
Publication 1: National Gallery Singapore
Publication 2: Peranakan Museum
Publication 3: His Story, My Story, Your Story
THE MESSAGE:
The exhibits in these museums are not boring or irrelevant. They have shaped us into what we are now. They are not just someone else's history and story, they are part of our story too.
THE STORY:
To nail my message, I decided to use the colour theory of complementary colours (green and red) and analogous colours (orange and red). Basically, I colour graded old photos of Singapore in the 1800s and 1900s into orange, and placed a photo of the exhibit that is colour graded green in the corresponding museum on top of it. Then, a red translucent tracing paper is placed on top of that image.
Thus, what can be seen on the tracing paper is the green image (the exhibit) but without the tracing paper, only the orange image (the old photo) can be seen.

PUBLICATION 1:
The first publication in the 3-part series is one on the National Gallery Singapore. I had to go to the museum and take my own pictures of the artworks. I chose the DBS Singapore Gallery: Siapa Nama Kamu because I wanted to capture the essence of Nanyang Art in this publication. People often think that the paintings painted by our forefathers are merely just paintings, but they are not. They have heavily influenced what Contemporary Art is like now in Singapore and have great history behind them.

PUBLICATION 2:
The second publication in the 3-part series is one on the Peranakan Museum. Like the first publication, I had to go to the museum and take my own photos. I chose this museum because I feel that it is the museum that is closest to our hearts as it is essentially a major part of our culture and tradition. I made the main colour scheme of this publication Turquoise because through my research, I was able to gather that that is a main colour of the Peranakan culture.

PUBLICATION 3:
The second publication in the 3-part series is an activity book for children and young people. Instead of making another publication about a museum, I felt that I needed something more substantial to fully push my message forward. So what better way than to make people understand it for themselves. They need to see for themselves, only then will they realize the importance of the exhibits. Thus, I created an activity book with fun activities that can include both parents and children. The publication is also aptly titled "His Story, My Story, Your Story".
